Blizzard is completely overhauling talents like never before. Is it good or bad news for players? It’s up to you. The World of Warcraft talent trees are undergoing what is arguably the biggest change ever. The talent trees are being condensed into 31 point trees one of which must have 31 points invested before you can branch into another tree.
This is a drastic departure from the talent system that has existed since the game's inception. Here's the relevant post:
"Zarhym
When we first announced our design goals for class talent trees back at BlizzCon 2009, one of our major stated focuses was to remove some of the boring and "mandatory" passive talents. We mentioned that we wanted talent choices to feel more flavorful and fun, yet more meaningful at the same time. Recently, we had our fansites release information on work-in-progress talent tree previews for druids, priests, shaman, and rogues. From those previews and via alpha test feedback, a primary response we heard was that these trees didn’t incorporate the original design goals discussed at BlizzCon. This response echoes something we have been feeling internally for some time, namely that the talent tree system has not aged well since we first increased the level cap beyond level 60. In an upcoming beta build, we will unveil bold overhauls of all 30 talent trees."
As you can see this is just a massive change. There's way too much information (and lack of information) to get a good picture of exactly how these changes are going to play out. The last paragraph alone that states that players are going to be getting abilities like Mutilate, Shadow Step, Earth Shield, Thunderstorm, etc. at level 10 for free opens up levels of possibility that players had never dreamed of.
It's not an exaggeration to say that if these changes are what they appear to be then this could be the biggest overhaul of World of Warcraft game balance ever and potentially bigger than the BC and WoTLK changes combined.
